Most Expensive Sports Collectibles,

Mark McGwire 70th Home Run Ball (1998)

$3,005,000

It only takes two to make an auction, which is why the bid for this ball went through the roof to what some say was a grossly inflated price, even without the steroid allegations that have come to dog McGwire. The winning bid, from comic book maker Todd MacFarlane, was reportedly well above all other offers. The ball is now estimated to be worth about a third of what MacFarlane paid for it.

Babe Ruth All-Star Game Home Run Ball (1933)

$805,000

The Babe hit the first-ever home run in an All-Star Game at Chicago's Comiskey Park. When the game became an annual classic, the value of the ball shot up.

4. Babe Ruth Bat - First Home Run At Yankee Stadium (1923)

$1.265 million

Ruth's sweet left-handed swing was instrumental in the Yankees' decision to abandon the old Polo Grounds for their own home with a short right field fence. It was only fitting that he indoctrinated Yankee Stadium (aka "The house that Ruth built') with the first home run. The ball fetched 12 times what the Ruth cost the Yankees in the first place--they bought him from the Boston Red Sox for $100,000 in 1920.
